Sarah Palin and her BFF - Page Two

(continuing from
Page One. )

She continues to claim more executive experience than
presidential candidate Barack Obama (whom I do not
support).  Sarah Palin has less than two years' experience in
the governor's chair compared to Obama's 12 years as a
state senator.

Sarah Palin tells women she will be doing us all a big favor
by cracking 'the ultimate glass ceiling'.  This is not the right
reason to want to run for public office.  This is not asking
what you can do for your country.  This is asking what your
country can do for you.

Every time her disabled baby is hauled out on stage for the
edification of the worshipful throng, I have a very bad feeling,
a feeling of dread.  Disabled, helpless babies, or single,
vulnerable teenage daughters should not be used for
political gain as props.

More:  It chilled me to hear Sarah Palin speak so
dismissively of the rights of 'terrorists' in her speech at the
Republican National Congress, entirely missing the point that
without the right of defense or habeas corpus, any one of us
who might protest can be disappeared into a black hole of
the state security apparatus.

You do not know someone is a terrorist (or indeed a criminal)
until they have had the opportunity to challenge allegations
and evidence in an open court of law.

The implication is that Palin knows just by looking at
someone - could it be the color of their skin?, the Koran they
hold? - that she knows what mere mortals would not - that
someone is guilty of a crime without charge or trial.

This is not someone who understands the philosophical
reasoning that underpins principles of liberty and
fundamental human rights as enshrined in the Constitution.

Although, it is fair to say that Sarah Palin is not alone in her
confusion.  The American dream is sinking.  One hint is that
over a million people are now on
terrorist 'watch' lists,
including Americans like Senator Edward Kennedy.

Almost a thousand peaceful protesters, along with journalists
covering the protests, were rounded up, roughed up and
falsely arrested at the Republican National Convention.

Protest organizers' homes were raided and private property
(computers, laptops, etc.) seized.  In a meeting hall all were
forced to submit to being photographed and fingerprinted.
Tags of accreditation were ripped from reporters' necks while
their
faces were crammed into the pavement as the delirious
Republican hordes roared approval in the convention hall to
hear that the rights of 'terrorists' are out the window.

What disturbs is how close in spirit America is today with
preWorld War Two Germany.  People are afraid, the
economy is in bad shape, and they look to their leaders for
answers.  The leaders say trust us, we need greater powers
to see us through this difficult time.  Heavy on the patriotism
(i.e. Patriot Act's One and Two) used to club anyone over the
head who question their motives.

In Germany it came to be known as National Socialism -
Nazism.

My concerns are not about Sarah Palin alone.  There is not
one scintilla of difference in foreign policy between Barack
Obama and John McCain; between the Republicans and the
Democrats.

The Democrats under Clinton and then the GOP under
George Bush, merrily bombed the water treatment and
electrical plants in
Iraq, guaranteeing the deaths of hundreds
of thousands of babies and children from preventable
disease.   Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright went
publicly on the record stating that in her opinion such horrible
numbers of civilian deaths were '
worth it'.

Now there's some God-fearing family values we can all
emulate.

John McCain is reportedly known for
angry outbursts.  Some
fear his having access to the nuclear option should he win
the presidency.  McCain thinks it's funny to sing insipid
ditties like, '
bomb, bomb, bomb Iran' to a Beach Boys tune
(you got me rockin' and a rollin', rockin' and a realin'...)

Obama has mean things to say about
Russia and Iran, no
doubt just like McCain.  Meanwhile, as the country goes
broke, the American military machine is encircling Russia
and Iran, dangerously destabilizing the world's political
equilibrium.

In addition to her inexperience, Sarah Palin really believes
she is a good mother while devoting herself completely to,
possibly, becoming leader of the most powerful country on
Earth. She has five, count 'em, five children, the youngest, a
baby born with Down Syndrome.  Is that the sign of a rational
or reasonable person?

The corporate media breaths not a word about any of the
other parties running presidential campaigns - Ralph Nader,
Cynthia McKinney, Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin - meeting the
core definition of rigging like sails on a ship.

So to answer the question of what worries me the most
about Sarah Palin (and Barack Obama) it is this:  Many
people closest to those in power are there because they
have agendas; they know that the heads of state (or
departments) have the power to make things happen.  They
will seem, as texting goes, like BFF (best friends forever.)

It takes experience to learn how to study the issues
independently, to consider the will of the people, to weigh
issues morally, and then lead rather than be led around by
the nose.

So, that aforementioned ship?  It's heading us all straight for
the rocks.  From another Mom politically attuned - take my
word for it.
