Editorial: Psycho-pathological denial

The Israeli writer, on the popular on-line Israeli news site Haaretz,
whines and snivels like a baby - an innocent babe - that he is
threatened with violence by Palestinians. He does not connect the dots.
While the state of Israel oppresses and occupies and kills and destroys
innocent Palestinian lives, no Israeli is safe and they have their
leadership to blame - not the Palestinians. There is a certain kind
of myopia, a blindness to reality that is disturbing to witness - a Photo by Khalil Hamra - AP
psycho-pathological denial.
Unfortunately, Israel has its accomplices who aid and abet and buttress the denial of what is real.
Al-Jazeera shows the devastation. AP photographer Khalil Hamra shows the carnage.

Israel is sliding into world-pariah status. Israel may not see but the rest of the world does. There
are international calls to boycott Israel and the calls become louder by the day - including from
Jews. (See: Naomi Klein's 'Enough!; Guardian; 10/01/09). When all else fails, defensive
Israel-firsters howl that those who demand justice for the Palestinians are hypocrites who don't
care or make noise for anybody else suffering in this world - a transparent attempt at deflecting the
world's righteous condemnation. Do I care about the suffering of other peoples? Yes, I do. But I
believe that the fate of the Palestinians is one of the pivotal issues of our time, peace depends on
a just outcome, and the oppression of the Palestinian people - enough.
