An important call from Jewish Voice for Peace:

'Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League is defending one of Israel's most powerful far-right
extremists and his plan to strip "unfaithful" citizens, mostly Arab Israelis, of their citizenship. The Anti-
Defamation League is supposed to "secure justice and fair treatment to all." Instead, they are
supporting a dangerous ideology that calls for taking citizenship away from Israelis for exercising their
right to free speech.

How can we expect the ADL to effectively defend the rights of Jews when they so easily step on the
rights of Arabs?...'

Lieberman drove the effort to ban Arab Israeli political parties from running the elections.  He almost
succeeded. He makes veiled threats to physical violence toward Arab Israeli members of the Knesset.
Lieberman openly calls for the 'transfer' (ethnic cleansing) of Arab Israeli citizens.

JVP invites you to ask Abe Foxman to
condemn attempts to strip Arab Israeli citizens of their
citizenship.

'Judge allows restraint chair use in Guantanamo force feedings'; By Carol Rosenberg | Miami Herald,
McClatchy; Feb. 11, '09;  Excerpt:  'As of Wednesday, 41 of the 245 captives at Guantanamo were on
a hunger strike, said Navy Cmdr. Pauline Storum. Of them, 35 were being force-fed twice a day
through a regime that involves strapping a shackled captive to a chair and Velcroing his head to a
metal restraint. Camp staff run a tube through the man's nose into his stomach and then pump in a
protein shake. Each feeding lasts about an hour.

Both detainees claimed that they were left strapped to the chair much longer than an hour, a claim the
judge said was true based on prison camp medical records.

The judge noted that she was sympathetic to the detainees' plight, even as she ruled against them.

''The detainees at Guantanamo Bay have waited many long years (some have waited more than
seven years) to have their cases heard by a judge,'' she wrote. "During that time they, like all
prisoners, have remained at the mercy of their captors.

"From all accounts -- those presented in classified information the Court has had access to, in
affidavits of counsel and in reports from journalists and human rights groups -- their living conditions
at Guantanamo Bay have been harsh.''

New evidence of Gaza child deaths'; Christian Fraser; BBC; Jan. 22, '09;
Excerpt: 'One of the most alarming features of the conflict in Gaza is the number of child casualties.
More than 400 were killed. Many had shrapnel or blast injuries sustained as the Israeli army battled
Hamas militants in Gaza's densely populated civilian areas.

But the head of neurosurgery at the El-Arish hospital, Dr Ahmed Yahia, told me that brain scans made
it clear that a number of the child victims had been shot at close range.'

The Gaza bombshell'; David Rose' Vanity Fair; Apr. '08.  Intro:  'After failing to anticipate Hamas’s
victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election, the White House cooked up yet another
scandalously covert and self-defeating Middle East debacle: part Iran-contra, part Bay of Pigs. With
confidential documents, corroborated by outraged former and current U.S. officials, the author reveals
how President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy National-Security Adviser Elliott Abrams backed
an armed force under Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan, touching off a bloody civil war in Gaza
and leaving Hamas stronger than ever.'

'Israel Violated Cease-fire 7 Times, No Media Reports'; By Haitham Sabbah • Jan 28th, 2009
Excerpt: 'American media are reporting violence that took place along the Gaza-Israel border on
January 27th as, in the words of CNN, "the first incidents of violence since last week's Mideast cease-
fire," telling the public that Palestinians broke the ceasefire. [1]

The reality, however, is that Israel had already violated the cease-fire at least 7 times, the Israeli
military killing 2 Palestinian civilians and injuring at least 5, at least one of them a child'

Health:  '
That chicken dinner? It might make you sick';  Tula Karras; MSNBC; Feb. 11, '09
Highlights:   '...there is a 50 percent chance that the bird you bring home from the grocery store will
contain Campylobacter (known as campy for short)...can make humans very ill, sometimes fatally, if
high cooking temperatures don’t kill it. Seeing as how the average American puts away more than 42
pounds of poultry per year (equal to 222 chicken breasts), your chances of getting sick are
considerable. An estimated 76 million cases of foodborne illness occur each year in the United States,
and during the past decade, poultry has caused more cases than any other individual food group...
Conventionally raised birds may also contain arsenic, a known carcinogen. “About 70 percent of
broiler chickens in the United States are fed arsenic at some point,” says David Wallinga, M.D.,
director of the Food and Health Program at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP), a
nonprofit think tank focusing on farming and food policy, in Minneapolis. Farmers add arsenic to
chicken feed in order to fatten their flocks — birds go from hatchling to slaughter in only six weeks —
and to give the birds their pinkish hue. And the practice is actually legal.'
